Our Recommendations
This power rack is highly recommended for beginner and intermediate lifters building a home or garage gym on a budget. Its 500 lb capacity is ample for most users. Before starting assembly, we advise carefully inventorying all parts against the manual, as missing components have been reported. For maximum stability during heavy lifts or dynamic movements like kipping pull-ups, consider bolting the unit to the floor.
Conclusion
The CAP Barbell Power Rack is a strong contender in the budget-friendly home gym market. It delivers on its promise of a functional, easy-to-assemble rack that provides fantastic value. While users should be mindful of potential issues like missing parts and the need to ensure stability for heavy use, its core functionality is solid. It is an excellent choice for those building a garage gym on a budget, but serious powerlifters may want to invest in a more robust, higher-capacity unit.

Keep in mind there are multiple products associated with this page
Look, I bought this (FM-CS7000F) almost exactly 3 years ago. I got it as a cheap way to do pullups at home. It was about the same price (or less) than a lot of the wall-mount bars and seemed to offer more flexibility in terms of usage and placement (plus, we had the space in our unfinished basement.) And then it turns out my wife ends up using it for TRX stuff as well (but you’re really going to need some weight on it or have it bolted down for most TRX stuff.)Oh, and it took me maybe an hour and a half to put the thing together on my own. I didn’t notice that the CAP logo pieces were supposed to be on the outside of the rack, but I was too lazy to disassemble those pieces after I’d already done one side, but that’s purely cosmetic. It’s a little low for me (6’1″) for pullups and the bar is maybe a bit fatter than I’d prefer (I maybe have smallish hands) but otherwise, hey, it serves its purpose well.Fast forward to March/April 2020 and we’re in the middle of a pandemic (Google it, I’m sure you’ll be able to find some record of it…) and lo and behold, I have a rack for squats and bench. The Amazon listing wasn’t clear on things (hence my warning that there are several products here.) The FM-CS7000F does indeed have a 300lbs limit. That means 300lbs for pullups. 300lbs for squats. 300lbs for bench. But hey, pandemic and I actually have SOMETHING in my possession. So in that regard it’s been fantastic.A couple of things:The j-cups (if you can even call them that) are just metal with paint on them. So, not wanting to ruin the knurling on my wife’s oly bar (yup – all we’ve got on hand), I bought some 1/8″ thick UHMW (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0789P278T/), cut it up with a jigsaw and slapped some on the j-cups with… maybe some glorified double-sided tape I already had. So far so good. Also, our flat bench is 21″ high. That doesn’t sound like a bad thing until you realize that the uprights/supports on this thing are in two pieces and there are bolts keeping them together. Point is: the j-cups are too low (or WAY too high) due to these bolts for bench press with a 21″ high flat bench. It’s fine with 16″-17″ high benches though. I mean, again, pandemic so I’m making it work, but just keep that in mind. Also on this page are some safety catches. They are listed as an accessory for the FM-CS7000F but they’ve gone in and out of stock recently so I haven’t pulled the trigger and purchased them. But it’s an option. I think the “color” option for the 7000F is listed as “a. Grey” but I’m sure you know how it goes: that may change at any moment. There’s also options for the FM-905Q and FM-8000F. Those racks do indeed have a 500lbs weight limits (and tend to cost a lot more as well.)Anyway, for what I paid for the 7000F, I’ve more than gotten my money’s worth out of it (the rack I will eventually get to replace it will cost me 12x as much – literally. 12.81175. I did the math). If you just want something for pullups, here you go. And you’ll possibly be partially prepared for the next pandemic as a side bonus.

9/10:)
I really like it! I feel like it was pretty easy to build. I didn’t build it but I saw my boyfriend build it and it took like 10 min. I think it’s sturdy. Not like super super sturdy but you get what you paid for. My brother weighs 210lbs and he was able to use to the pull up with no issue 🙂

Two-Person Assembly Job!
This rack was easy enough to put together, but took twice as long as it should because the screws and bolts were ridiculous! (Thus, the reduced star.) They barely thumb-tightened, had metal shavings hanging off of the nuts, and we had to use our own 17 mm wrench and the allen wrench included to tighten them down. (The instructions stated the need for an adjustable wrench, but we found that the regular wrench was easier to use.) It is also absolutely a two person job! One of us would wrap the allen wrench in a towel to protect the skin on our palms, and hold it tight while the other of us used the wrench to tighten the nuts. When all is said and done, the unit wobbles a little, but that is only if I grab a hold of it and shake it. It’s not a dealbreaker. The unit is 7 feet tall. We assembled it at the highest point of the basement. I am lucky I have tall ceilings! I have just upped my home workout gym by 100!! I’m excited to add everything this rack allows me to do into my future workouts. Super glad the assembly process is over! This is a win!

Sturdy, compact, practical, and stable. Looks nice too.
Sturdy, compact, practical, and stable. Looks nice too. I could swing a bit on the pull up bar and it didn’t budge a bit. I did not try purposefully swinging about a crazy amount because the room it’s in is small and there are windows. It took me about 2 hours to put together not because it’s was difficult to understand, there were simply a fair amount of steps. I am very happy with the quality and results as this is a great help to being a beginning weightlifter although my ultimate goal is to bulk up and buy a Smith Machine (which costs much more) and take this outside to have more unrestrained fun with the pull-up bar.A++++++I’ll add reviews of the add-ons to this product here, as and if I buy them.a) Cap Barbell Safety Catches / Spotter ArmsI got the red ones as red is a warning color and reminder. They are heavy duty, painted with thick enamel, and have no rust. The thin rubber pads on the top surface are glue to the painted metal and mostly stuck, but not completely, no problem though as they were screwed into the safety catches so they won’t come off regardless.I’m happy they were available as I am weak and have no spotter. These are a must to protect me.

Good product for home
Arrived on-time and I’m a professional welder so I can tell you that the welds at the joints were “good” (i.e. no undercut, porosity, overhand | appearance of good penetration, heat, distance, and speed of wire-feed, etc…). Very easy to assemble and all components were in good shape and present.Back in the day CAP had a large market push for 1″ bars for 1″ plate holes so I have a lot of that equipment. The bar and plate holders for the back are for 2″ bars and plates though so I don’t really have a use for them now since I found this the most affordable and reliable for front/back squatting at home. Would have been nice if there were a rack like this but for 1″ equipment but no biggie. I may purchase an EZ bar with the accompanying 2″ plates later for triceps extensions, shoulder raises, and curls but I don’t need that for now. Finally, I’m 6’1” | 175lbs and the pull-up bar is perfect for me for any kind of hang-man ab-work, pull-ups’, chin-ups, etc. I’m all about high intensity weightlifting so adding this equipment to my personal fitness arsenal. (e.g. Widow-maker back squat set (20 sec rest) + straight leg deadlift (20 sec rest) + dumbbell press (full rest until HR < 120 bpm - start drop-set back squat + reg. deadlift, etc.)Very grateful for a solid rack to allow me to back squat at home

As a more mature gentleman, I now primarily concentrate on body weight exercises.I found that outdoor pull-up bars are generally flimsy in construction and as a result not very stable: unsuited to the job for which they are intended. Then I had a eureka moment and bought the super sturdy Cap Barbell Power Rack.Sometimes I even surprise myself.

Great

This style of dip bar would work better on a 3 inch by 3 inch rack so it would be more stable. It works though.
